There isn't a whole lot we know about this awesome theeater, but what we do know is that the Royal Theater was constructed in 1939. It is located on the main street in Guadalupe, California, just a few miles from the Nipomo Dunes. In the 1970's and 1980's, the Royal was operated by Hank Garcia, who's family still owns the Fox Theatre and Green Valley Cinema in Watsoville, CA. At this time Royal screened Spanish langage films. In the mid-1990's, the Royal was closed down for some period. A few years later new ownership took over, the operator of the Fox Theatre in Taft, CA, refurbishing the marquee and inside of the theater, also giving it a new look with the new pink paint replacing the old buttery yellow. At this time it was reopened as a first run movie theater. This new ownership didn't last long, though, closing its doors after several weeks. Some time later the City of Guadalupe bought back the theater, using it for local gatherings and community functions. As of April 1, 2006, the Royal Theater once again took up new ownership, but this time it is home to Gold Coast Sound Studios, a state of the art recording studio. We have made many, many, many updates to the theater, restoring its old grace, with much new age charm. The theater is also home to PDR Media and aTypical Records. |
